The No Good Very Bad New Years; That Turned Out Not So Bad

Happy 2013.
Like seriously does not feel like new years, maybe because my new years was a bust, well it was a bust from our original plans...

So our plan was to call our cab at 10:30, head downtown Sarasota where 40,000 people were gathered to celebrate the drop of the pineapple. "The Big Apple" likes to drop big sparkly objects, Florida keeps it tropical by dropping a giant lighted pineapple. I have yet to ever attend this event because
Year 1: I was 20
Year 2: I was 21, but it was cancelled
So once P and I found it that it was back for 2013 we were SO excited to go!

I went tanning, got a cute outfit, and starting getting ready at about 8:00 so I had plenty of time to curl my hair, and look fabbbbulous!

At about 9:30 I suggested to P that he call the cab and just tell them we wanted to be picked up at 10:30, but since our cab driver ALWAYS shows up early, and we had people to wait on he decided it was probably a better idea just to wait until everyone arrived......

So once everyone was accounted for we celebrated with a couple pre-game drinks and called the cab to come pick us up for our night of eagerly anticipated fun.....

I heard Porter talking to him and saying things such as:
"ohhhh......"
"it's okay man, I understand"
"don't worry about it."
When he hung up the phone and came back in the room he informed us that there was a 2 HOUR WAIT for any cab in town.

2 freaking hours, and it was 10:30 which meant we would not make it anywhere before midnight.
Since I was sober and only had about 1 beer I offered to just be the designated driver for the night but being the awesome hubby P is, and knowing that I didn't want to spend the night missing out on the celebrations he made the decision to just stay home, watch football, play drunk uno, and celebrate the year together which was all that really mattered.

We had some beer, and of course an overload of wine but had NO champagne to ring in 2013, so I hopped in the car and drove to the nearest only open store hoping they would have some sort of cheap champagne. Well to add to my night of wonderful luck they didn't, so I got the next best thing.

Oreos.

We spent the rest of the night playing stupid drinking games, watching T-Swifts HORRIBLE performance on Dick Clark's and taking tons of pictures of my puppies.

It may not have been the New Year's we planned, but it was nothing short of Perfect!
We recovered this morning with Starbucks, taking the pups on a long car ride, and a nice walk.

How was your New Years?!

  2. Oh! I hope your tanning consists of the spray-on kind lady! I wouldn't want you to get skin cancer down the road!

But I'm glad your New Year went well, and may you see the pineapple drop in 2013 : ]

P.S.--Oreos are a totally acceptable alternative to champagne ; ]

  4. What a bummer, getting all dressed up and nowhere to go. But, I'm older & far more boring now and I completely appreciate a New Years Eve that consists of Oreos and pajamas. :)

    Happy New Year!

  7. That's a bummer. :(

I just want to chime in, and say that we love you, and want you to be safe! I hope you're doing spray tanning -- no tanning beds! I was reading a blog yesterday of a girl who discovered her melanoma after it had already spread. She was only 23!

    Be safe lady!! :)
